A note from the family
Our Story
Hi. I'm named after my great-grandfather. And yes, before you ask — my mum did not write this. I did. She tried. It was very corporate. We agreed she should stick to running the business.
So. ArtRest.
Two homes
Built by Nana and Nani.
It started with two homes that our Nana, Pritamsingh Meharsingh Chugh, and Nani, Gurpreet Kaur, built. Neel Kamal Bhawan — our heritage bungalow in Navrangpura, Ahmedabad — that's 1976, before most of you were born. And Mehar, our garden villa in Noida, which they finished in 2010. Nana named both of them. Nani grew the gardens. Between the two of them, they filled every single room with furniture, art, colour and plants until there was basically no wall left. We think it's perfect. Some people call it maximalist. We call it home.
The art
Living inside the family gallery.
Here's the thing about these homes — a lot of the art on the walls of our Ahmedabad bungalow? That's ours. The family's. And our dad's photographs are everywhere too — he's an amateur photographer who somehow makes everything look intentional and aesthetic. So when you stay here, you're essentially living inside our family's art gallery. Do stop and appreciate the photographs. Our dad will never say this himself, but he really wants you to.
Nana and Nani
Navrangpura, then everything after.
Nana arrived in Navrangpura in 1971 as a young man of 25. He found a city at the peak of its mill era — full of energy, full of ambition — and amongst his Jain friends and community, he found somewhere he truly belonged. Nani built the life around him. Together, they built everything you see.
They still live in both homes — the heritage bungalow in Ahmedabad and the villa in Noida. But they travel more now. And our mum thought — why should these homes just sit there looking gorgeous? So ArtRest was born. Our maasi picked all the furniture in Noida. Our dad made sure the aesthetics were right. And we gave it the name.
Someone in the family approves everything. He's very opinionated. We keep him around anyway.
People of the place
Not as staff. As people who are simply part of this place.
These homes have never really belonged to just us. Ravi's grandfather helped build Neel Kamal Bhawan. Now Ravi helps us run ArtRest Ahmedabad. Ramgopal and Dwarka worked alongside our Nana for over thirty years — and you will likely find them here still, welcoming you in, exactly as they once welcomed our friends and family. Not as staff. As people who are simply part of this place.
The invitation
Come stay. The gardens are ridiculous.
If you choose to stay here — we have made the connection.
We open these homes to people who want to stay somewhere that actually means something. You get the whole place to yourselves — whether it's the bungalow in Navrangpura or the garden villa in Noida. And every year, we sponsor an artist residency — bringing in an artist who needs space to work, breathe and create somewhere they couldn't otherwise afford to be.
Come stay. The gardens are ridiculous. In the best way.
